It is so interesting to me to see how people interpret the descriptions I’ve written, or anyone writes. The images in our minds are unique, only for us, and the ones others create are theirs. There is no way to have the exact same vision for say a character from a book than the others who read the same novel.

This goes for movies and plays too. For example, I recently saw the new Odyssey movie on one of those rare date nights with my DH. (AMAZING!)

I remember reading this in 9^th grade, and although that was a million years ago (cough, last century!), I still had images in my mind of what Odysseys, Penelope, and Telemachus looked like. Anne Hathaway was Perfect! And Matt Damon was surprisingly similar to how I imagined Odysseys.

Which brings me to this point: I recently commissioned some character art for The Mark of the Artist to use on socials, and possibly in some fun print items. The artist did a great job. It was so interesting to see how my characters showed up in a visual way from another person’s imagination.

Using descriptions from my book, the artist conjured up both Anna and Sebastian in ways that were different than I had imagined them. But that’s the point with art, right? To reflect and show other points of view. Did this artist magically crawl into my brain and pull out the exact images I have when writing about these two characters. Of course not. But they are new examples of them, colorful and interesting.
