It’s update time again! Hope you all are enjoying Spring.
Author Garden
Whoo hoo, it’s planting time here. The family decided to expand our raised bed herb garden since things have been growing really well—so well that we had to transplant a giant California pineapple sage plant out of the beds and back into the landscaping areas. 🌱

Next up will be the tomatoes, basil, and maybe a cucumber. 🍅 But we have to wait a bit longer because of all the crazy weather. Which leads me to…
Crazy Lightning storms!
The Sacramento area has had one hell of a Springtime when it comes to lightning storms. One a week ago knocked out power in some places (not me, thankfully), but I want to give a major shout-out to ANYONE who works in emergency services, power workers, or critical services and had to go out in that kind of ridiculous weather. Thank you for your service, and please be safe when the next one comes. Which could be today, btw. 🫶🏼
The only good thing about the crazy storms and lightning was that it gave me some inspiration and experiences for my upcoming book. In this new story, the main character gets caught in several Storms and has to navigate her way through. This lighting we watched will totally end up in my book:
Monkey of a Book Review!
The kiddos and I finished The Summer of the Monkeys, and we really loved it. They didn’t want to stop reading as we’d get to bedtime, so that tells you something. The ending is amazing! No trauma, in case you’re worried about reading this one because you read Where the Red Fern Grows by the same author.

I’m currently reading a couple of books for myself including Summer by Edith Wharton, Happenstance by Nicola Delacoeur (another indie author!). Follow me on Goodreads to see what other books I’m reading! 📚
Book Fest
Speaking of books! I bought several new books this weekend at the Sacramento Book Festival. Daughter and I stopped by the Book Fest to check out all the local authors selling their art. There was a special section for kids’ books, and we picked up one called The Etiquette of Voles by Karen B. McCoy. Jumped into it last night and it’s already a good read, cute and witty, with a Secrets of Nimh vibe. Also bought a couple of other books that I was happy to add to my to be read list (more on that at another time).
We of course had to stop by the booth where Auntie Ashley was selling her amazing books (Daughter went running when we saw her at the Horror Writers Association Sacramento booth🩷). And Ashley made a killing, selling out of A Cursed Age hardcovers in an hour and a half! 🙌🏼

Maybe I’ll need a table for The Mark of the Artist next year? 😏 Until then, you can get a copy of it online, or at Old Haunts bookstore in Granite bay, CA.
And don’t forget about Maisie’s Escape too! (psst! Keep an eye out for a little something related to Maisie’s Escape soon!)
Keep on reading, folks! 📖
