Today, October 20th is National Day on Writing! So, I thought I’d be a good time to answer the question: Why do I write?
Quick history: I think the beginning of my love of writing started way back in about the 2nd grade when my aunt and uncle gave me a diary for Christmas. Pink paper, big stylized heart on the front, and a Lock! Ohhh this was the big time. 😉 Terrible handwriting and spelling (eek!) aside, having a place to keep my thoughts and ideas helped me so much.
Then I started writing stories. Fan fiction, my own fairy tales, poetry and everything in between.

Writing is a natural state for me, which brings me to these reasons I write:
✍🏼 I just can’t help it! I’m an indie author of two published stories, The Mark of the Artist, and Maisie’s Escape. But in my non-author life I’m marketing writer. If I didn’t write, I’m not sure what the hell I’d be doing!
✍🏼 I have stories in me I Have to get out! I have more stories swirling around in my head. Currently I’m plotting out an alternate history/steampunk novel set in the California Gold Rush! 💛
✍🏼 Writing is Therapy! Putting thoughts on paper helps me reflect, pause to think about things, and sometimes take those emotions out on unsuspecting characters (mwahaha).
✍🏼 It’s Fun! I love to write by hand. I have SO many notebooks, journals, and scraps of paper around the house (and my car, purse, desk, etc.). Each one is full of good and bad ideas, character sketches, plots, and yes, silly little doodles of ladybugs 🐞

Expressing myself with words is my creativity, my art. It isn’t with paint or a guitar, just the rhythm of words flowing from a pen, skittering across the page, jumping and dancing as the scene plays out. I love the sound of words, even when they are only in my mind. The imagination of world building, characters that live in the pages. Painting a sunset, dark urban street, flowing river in gold and pink, salty waves casting foamy spray against black rocks.
Why do You write?
If you like my writing, why not check out my book The Mark of the Artist or the companion short story Maisie’s Escape?
