New Short Story: Maisie’s Escape

Warning! This post contains spoilers from The Mark of the Artist!

One of the greatest joys I’ve found so far in my author experience is the pure pride that my kiddos have for my book. To them, I’m just the same as those who wrote the books they find at the library. It makes my Mom-heart sing. 🩷💙

But then one of them asked a question about my story that I just couldn’t answer! As I was telling them the story of The Mark of the Artist, with some modifications for their age levels, my daughter asked: “How’d Maisie escape her kidnappers?” I sat there, mouth open, stumbling around for an answer and I had none. “She just did, I guess” was the best I could come up with.  🤔

I started to think more and more about the character of Maisie. She’s a nine year-old-girl, spunky, smart, quiet, and small to those around her. Sly and thoughtful. When writing The Mark of the Artist, she was just a cute side character, a bit of humor, and she added something to the character of Kellogg, her father, who had a larger part to play in the plot. But, there was more here to explore.

So that brings me to an announcement!

Maisie’s Escape

A new Short Story from the world of The Mark of the Artist!

Maisie knows her way around Port City better than anyone. Follow along on her new adventure and find out what happened to little Maisie once she was kidnapped by Chace Porter and his gang. See how this adorable, smart little kid knew much more about what was happening in Port City, and just may have changed the way Sebastian, James, Argento, Anna, and her Papa’s lives turned out.

I’ll be doing a cover reveal soon too, so keep an eye out!

In the meantime, here’s a Mood Board to give you some hints about this new short story!

Maisie’s Escape will be out this September, in celebration of the 1-year anniversary of my debut novel! So, if you haven’t read The Mark of the Artist yet, get your copy today!

Available on Amazon Kindle, Barnes & Noble, Apple books, and paperback.
